  • 1/2 kilo fresh crab meat (about 2-1/2 cups)
  • 2 tbsp.  mayonnaise – lite
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • Several drops hot pepper sauce
  • 4 green onions, chopped
  • 2 Tbsps. dry mustard
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper, or to taste
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup cracker crumbs ( you can use Skyflakes ) or bread crumbs
  • 5 tbsp Canola Oil
  • 2 tomatoes and scallions for garnish

Filipino Beef Empanada Recipe

How to make Filipino Beef Empanada

Empanada is a savory turnover filled with meat that trace their origins to Galicia (Spain) and Portugal. Empanada is a Spanish word meaning meat pie.   Filipino Empanadas are either baked or fried like the Vigan Empanadas from the northern part of the Philippines.  Empanadas make great appetizers and finger foods for a meal on the go.

In this Filipino Beef Empanada we used lean ground beef, you can also use shredded beef but it takes longer to prepare or  substitute any filling you like.  Just like the famous Chicken Empanada, the Beef is cooked with vegetables like potatoes, bell pepper and green peas, with raisins.

Filipino Beef Empanada Ingredients:

For Beef Empanada Filling:

  • 1 tbsp Canola or vegetable oil
  • 1/2 kilo Lean Ground beef, preferably 85% lean
  • 1/2 cup onion , diced
  • 1 cup carrots, diced
  • 2 cups Potato, diced
  • 1/2 cup green peas
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup white wine
  • 3 Tbsp cane vinegar
  • 1 Chorizo Bilbao, diced (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 egg whites, beaten for sealing the empanadas
  • 2 egg yolks, slightly beaten for brushing

For Dough/Crust :

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 4 tbsp. sugar
  • ½ cup butter, chilled & cubes
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 6-7 tbsp. icy cold water

Inihaw na Liempo Recipe

How to cook Inihaw na Liempo

Inihaw na Liempo is a grilled pork belly marinated in a mixture of Sprite or 7UP, crushed garlic, vinegar, salt and pepper. It is always served with a dipping sauce, the most simple are soy-vinegar (toyo’t suka) or garlic-vinegar (bawang at suka).  Inihaw na Liempo is the perfect “Pulutan” over a nice cold beer.

Inihaw na Liempo is one of Filipino food recipes that is always present in most special occasions in the Philippines, like Birthdays, Christmas and New Year. If you have not yet savored this dish, I suggest that you give it a try, I’m sure you will love Inihaw na Liempo.

Inihaw na Liempo Ingredients

  • 1 Kilo 1 inch thick belly, cut in half (to about 4 inches in length)

For the Grill marinade:

  • 1/2 cup Sprite or 7UP
  • 8 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1/2 tsp ground peppercorn
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp calamansi juice
  • 3 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce

For the Dipping sauce:

  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp calamansi
  • 1 pc Chili pepper (siling labuyo), chopped
  • 2 pcs Garlic cloves, diced
  • 1 tsp Onion, chopped
  • a pinch of salt
  • a dash of sugar
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
